BEIJING, October 28 (TMTPOST) — Global tech giant Apple has doubled the number of its clean energy suppliers to 50 in China, the company announced in an official statement. This means that Apple will be able to reduce CO2 emission by 18 million tons every year, which is equivalent to the carbon emission produced by nearly four million vehicles on the road each year. In addition, the recent development will help Apple get closer to achieving the goal of full carbon neutralization throughout its entire supply chain and product life cycles by 2030.

While Apple is already carbon neutral across its global operations, by 2030, every Apple device sold will have a net-zero climate impact, the company said in an announcement. In total, Apple has reduced its carbon emissions by 40% over the past five years, according to the company.

“We are excited to see so many companies from China are joining us for this important cause to protect our planet and contribute to China’s green transition, said Isabel Ge Mahe, vice president of Apple Inc., and managing director and head of Apple Greater China region. “We wish to inspire great changes. The progress that we have been able to achieve is buttressed by our partners. We all work to bring greater changes in the coming years.”

Apple launched its Supplier Clean Energy Program in 2015. There has been a strong trend for Chinese suppliers to transition to using clean energy. These Chinese companies are located across the country, from East China’s Shandong, Zhejiang to South China’s Fujian and Guangdong, serving to bring clean energy to their own communities.

Chinese suppliers that joined Apple’s initiative in the past six months include Chengdu Hongming Shuangxin Technology, China Circuit Technology (Shantou), Sichuan Furong Technology, Guangdong Ellington, JPond Precision Technology, Jiangsu Gian Technology, DSBJ, Shandong Innovation Metal, Shenzhen Everwin Precision Technology and Shenzhen Deren Electronic.
